Suga joined Big Hit Entertainment after auditioning in a rap competition called Hit It. Initially, he was recruited as a producer and had no intention of becoming an idol. However, the company convinced him to train as a performer, and he eventually debuted as a rapper in BTS.

2013: Debut with BTS:

Suga debuted as part of BTS on June 13, 2013, with their single "No More Dream". His stage name, Suga, reflects his “sweet” and charismatic persona on stage, derived from his love for basketball and the shooting guard position.
